Democrats in the 32nd Legislative District have endorsed one incumbent and two challengers for places on the Lynnwood City Council.
The incumbent is Van AuBuchon, who faces former Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions in the Nov. 4 general election. Aubuchon is seeking a second four-year term.
Democrats also have endorsed Shirley Sutton, one of two challengers to longtime Councilman Loren Simmonds. Simmonds, Sutton and Lynnwood Planning Commissioner Maria Ambalada will meet in the Aug. 4 primary election, which will narrow the field to two for November.
The Democrats listed challenger George Hurst as their “preferred” candidate against incumbent Councilman Sid Roberts in November. Democrats use the “preferred” designation when no candidate for the position identifies as a Democrat.
Democrats made no recommendation in the Lynnwood primary contest involving incumbent Councilman Benjamin Goodwin and challengers Chris Frizzell and Douglas Jones for the chance to advance to the general election.
The Democrats have endorsed appointed Edmonds City Councilman Mike Nelson and Edmonds School Board candidate Carin Chase.
Nelson is running against challenger Alvin Rutledge for the last two years of the four-year term that former Councilman Strom Peterson won in 2013. The Council appointed Nelson after Peterson resigned in January to start the term in the legislature that he won in 2014.
Chase, chairwoman of the 32nd District Democrats, is running against business executive Bill Willcock for the school board position that current board member Kory DeMun is giving up.
Democrats also have endorsed Democratic County Councilwoman Stephanie Wright, who is unopposed for re-election in both the primary and the general election, and three candidates to represent District 3 on the county charter review commission: Chase, Mike Arendt and Natalia Fior. County Council District 3 includes Lynnwood, Edmonds, Woodway and nearby areas.
The endorsements came from the 32nd District Democratic organization. The 32nd district includes Lynnwood, south Edmonds, Woodway and nearby unincorporated areas, part of Mountlake Terrace, the city of Shoreline and part of northwest Seattle.
