PORTLAND, Ore. — A bat found in Central Oregon has tested positive for rabies.
The Deschutes County Public Health Department says the tests were performed after a dog in Sisters, Oregon, was found with a dead bat in its mouth.
The Oregon Health Authority says three other bats have tested positive for rabies so far this year. They were in Benton, Josephine and Washington counties.
Sick bats may be seen flopping around on the ground. If you find a sick bat or other sick wildlife on your property, call the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife at (541) 947-2950.
Health officials also remind people to make sure their pets are vaccinated against rabies.
