First off, the NHL draft takes place this weekend in Sunrise, Fla.
That makes this a big weekend for Silvertips defenseman Noah Juulsen. Juulsen, an 18-year-old from Abbotsford, B.C., is coming off a season in which he posted nine goals and 43 assists in 68 games. He’s seen his NHL draft stock rise steadily to the point where he’s now a fringe candidate to go in the first round. The first round takes place Friday evening. If Juulsen isn’t picked in the first round, he’ll have to wait until Saturday to learn his draft fate.
Everett has two other players who were listed in NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings, defensemen Tristen Pfeifer and Kevin Davis. However, both were ranked in the range where it’s questionable at best whether either will be selected.
Now on to the news of the day, as the Silvertips released their preseason schedule for the 2015-16 season Tuesday.
The preseason schedule takes its usual form, consisting of seven games. It all starts with Everett’s preseason tournament over the Labor Day weekend, with Victoria being the team to join the five U.S. Division squads this year. and once again the Tips head the following weekend to Kennewick for two games at Tri-City’s preseason tournament. Where things change is in the final weekend of the preseason. Normally the Tips finish up with a home-and-home set against Seattle. But that’s not the case this year as Everett will finish off with a game at Portland and a home game against Victoria. The Tips will see plenty of the Winterhawks and Royals in the preseason as five of Everett’s seven preseason contests are against those two teams.
Here’s the entirety of Everett’s preseason schedule:
Sept. 4, Victoria at Everett, 7 p.m.
Sept. 5, Spokane at Everett, 7 p.m.
Sept. 6, Portland at Everett, 7 p.m.
Sept. 10, Everett vs. Prince George in Kennewick, 11 a.m.
Sept. 11, Everett vs. Portland in Kennewick, 11 a.m.
Sept. 18, Everett at Portland, 7 p.m.
Sept. 19, Victoria at Everett, 7:05 p.m.
The regular season schedule is set to be released Wednesday.
