As part of a multi-year agreement, Microsoft has been named the official technology partner of NASCAR and a major technology partner of Hendrick Motorsports.
NASCAR and Hendrick Motorsports will adopt the new Windows 10 platform and Microsoft Azure, a cloud-computing platform. Hendrick driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. will serve as a spokesman to promote Windows 10, which will be available July 29.
Steve Guggenheimer, Microsoft’s chief evangelist of developer experience, in a statement this week called NASCAR and Hendrick Motorsports “perpetual innovators in motorsports,” and said the new partnerships will push all three organizations forward.
“This sport demands constant innovation, to have its boundaries pushed, so that the sport delivers the exciting experienced expected by fans,” Guggenheimer said.
Microsoft will also support the launch of Microsoft 10 with primary sponsorship of Earnhardt’s No. 88 Chevrolet SS at the Sonoma Raceway on June 28 and the Pocono Raceway on Aug. 2.
In 2014, NASCAR started using Microsoft’s Windows mobile inspection application, which has almost halved the time it spends examining cars before races, the company said. With the app, officials can also monitor each car as they’re inspected for safety and competition regulations.
NASCAR said according to a recent analysis, it has experienced a 50 percent year-over-year increase in technology companies entering racing as official partners from 2013 to 2014.
