In light of the fire danger we face right now, (Tuesday front page article, “Fire season flares up”) it is totally irresponsible for groups to be pushing fireworks. But to be doing so while invoking the rhetoric of the Iraq war — Shock and Awe — is not only crass and cynical, it dishonors the lives and service of those men and women who were drawn into that unnecessary and totally discredited misadventure. Shame on the groups who so cavalierly market these dangerous products using the blood and sacrifice of those who served, were injured and died.
