YAKIMA — A campaign has launched in support of bringing a mosaic facade to Tieton’s post office.
The Yakima Herald reports the Kickstarter campaign to create “the coolest post office in America” started Wednesday. Boosters hope they will raise the $48,000 needed for the Tieton Stamp Mosaic Project by next month. As of Wednesday night, donors had pledged more than $7,000.
The mosaic facade would be created with 41,500 pieces of hand-cut glass tile resembling a gigantic postage stamp.
Supporters say the mosaic is meant to honor small-town post offices and celebrate the agricultural community.
Tieton postmaster Cindy England says she’s exciting about the changes and hopes the campaign reaches its goal.
Funding will go toward materials, artisan labor and professional installation.
