It is interesting to read the outcry of some about the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage. They would have you believe it is a states’ rights issue, but the 14th Amendment to the Constitution states “… all citizens are guaranteed equal protection of the law.” It doesn’t say unless your religious beliefs are different or only for heterosexuals.
Conservatives argue there is nothing about marriage in the Constitution, therefore the 10th Amendment applies, but there is nothing in the Constitution about education, but based on the same clause in the 14th Amendment, justices decided unanimously in 1954 to prohibit states from discriminating in public education. Should we have all waited for the states to allow schools to be integrated?
