Tri-City routs AquaSox 9-3

PASCO — Everett AquaSox starter Luiz Gohara could not get out of the first inning on Friday night, as the Tri-City Dust Devils scored five times in the opening frame en route to a 9-3 victory at Gesa Stadium.

The win clinches the series for the Dust Devils (7-9) and drops the AquaSox’s record to 11-5.

The evening started off on the right foot for Everett, who scored twice in the top of the first inning off Tri-City starter Walker Lockett.

Jordan Cowan scored on a wild pitch and Corey Simpson’s sacrifice fly plated another for Everett, but Gohara could not respond with a shutdown inning in the bottom of the first.

Two walks and a two-run double off the bat of Tri-City’s Nick Vilter spelled the end of Gohara’s evening, and the Brazilian southpaw will see his earned run average of 2.65 rise after allowing three runs on two hits in just 2/3 of an inning.

Reliever Rohn Pierce didn’t fare much better on the mound for the AquaSox, as the Dust Devils greeted the right-hander with consecutive doubles that scored two more runs to make the score 4-2.

Tri-City added a fifth run in the first inning on an RBI single by Daniel Bravo to put the AquaSox on the back foot.

Lockett settled in on the mound for the Dust Devils, allowing just two hits over his next five innings, leaving after six having only allowed the two runs in the first. He struck out six and walked one.

Tri-City continued to add runs late in the game, scoring twice in the sixth and seventh innings.
