FedEx is reportedly negotiating with Boeing to buy at least 25 767 freighters.
The sale would be a big bump for the twin-engine airplane program, which has posted seven net orders since 2013. The program is buoyed by the U.S. Air Force’s order for 179 aerial refueling tankers based on the 767, which is assembled at Boeing’s Everett plant.
Executives from the shipping company met in the Seattle area with Boeing representatives to discuss the deal, Bloomberg News reports.
FedEx already has 35 767-300 freighters on order. Adding 25 would make the company the 767’s all-time top customer.
The airplane is listed at $199.3 million on Boeing’s website. The sale would have a list value of nearly $5 billion. However, the actual price of an airplane is often steeply discounted during sales negotiations.
