HILLSBORO — The Everett AquaSox snapped a four-game losing streak in a big way Sunday, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after the first two innings — and tacking on seven more in the sixth — to cruise to a 14-6 win over the Hillsboro Hops in a Northwest League game at Ron Tonkin Field.
After scoring two runs in the first inning — thanks to an RBI single by Corey Simpson and a sacrifice fly by Johan Quevedo that scored Jordan Cowan — Everett scored five more runs in the second.
Ryan Uhl led off the second inning with a ground-rule double and scored on an RBI single by Arturo Nieto. Drew Jackson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, had an RBI single and stole home for the third run of the inning. Logan Taylor knocked in a run with a ground out and Simpson, who had two hits and three RBI, had an RBi single to give the AquaSox a 7-0 lead.
Things remained quiet until the sixth inning when Jackson got the scoring started with another RBI single that scored Erick Mejia from third. Everett loaded the bases and a hit-batter, a walk and a single by Luis Liberato produced three more runs. Quevedo hit a three-run double to increase the AquaSox’s lead to 14-1.
Everett starting pitcher Luiz Gohara (2-2) picked up the win, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits in six innings. The left-hander did not walk a batter and struck out three.
Hillsboro pitchers walked five and five AquaSox batters were hit by a pitch during the game.
