Incumbent U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-WA, is filling up her campaign coffers while her Republican opponent is finally getting a chance to focus on the congressional contest.
DelBene, a former Microsoft Corp. executive, received $450,000 in contributions in the three-month period that ended June 30, according to the latest figures reported to the Federal Election Commission. The Medina resident had $366,809 on hand after expenses, reports show.
DelBene is seeking a third term representing the 1st Congressional District which stretches south from the Canadian border to suburban areas in east King County. It takes in parts of Snohomish, Whatcom, Skagit and King counties.
Republican state Rep. Elizabeth Scott of Monroe, DelBene’s only announced opponent, is revving up her campaign after a 2015 legislative session that lasted six months.
Scott reported raising $24,000 through June 30, according to FEC records. Of the total, she paid $15,000 to The Wickers Group in San Francisco to conduct a “benchmark survey” of the race.
The company worked for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2012 and has been involved in several initiative campaigns in Washington.
Meanwhile, Scott, who is in her third term in the Legislature, launched her website this month laying out her views on government spending and personal liberties.
