EVERETT — Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee is staging its 23rd annual Nubian Jam Community Cultural Festival from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 25 at Forest Park, 802 Mukilteo Blvd, Everett.
People who attend can expect cultural performances along with concerts by local gospel choirs, R&B bands, neo-soul groups and rap artists.
Also scheduled is an open mic talent competition.
Games, raffles and a Zumba workout are planned.
Ethnic food purveyors and other local community vendors will be on hand.
The Nubian Jam is a celebration of African and African American culture in the form of fellowship and community celebration, said DanVo’nique Reed, the jam’s events coordinator.
“The goal is to be a educational as well as an entertaining event that honors our elders, inspires and empowers positive self-awareness for our youth, and promote unity by helping the community become aware of the beautiful richness of the black culture,” Reed said. “This event has been going strong for 23 years and, as in years past, we are ecstatic about all of the great food, businesses, community organizations and entertainment we have lined up.”
Sponsors of the event include the city of Everett and the Snohomish County branch of the NAACP.
