The latest plant of pen-raised triploid rainbow in Lake Stevens by the Jim Goerg family and their Cooperative Trout Enhancement Program took place the first week of April and involved about 400 pounds of 11- to 14-inch ‘bows and around 100 larger trips going 4 to 6 pounds. The Goergs publish The Reel News and solicit donations for their non-profit program as a service to the Lake Stevens fishing community.
Goerg said that Doug Smith of Troutlodge, the fish supplier, estimated the program has placed some 30,000 trout in the lake since the program began in 2005.
The fish cost an average of about $1 each, Goerg said. Anyone interested in helping this volunteer trophy trout fishery survive can send a tax-deductible contribution to: CTEP, Jim Goerg, 621 SR 9 N.E., #A-16, Lake Stevens, WA.
