KEIZER, Ore. — The Everett AquaSox jumped out to a 4-0 lead early but failed to hold off the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, who rallied for a 5-4 walk-off win in the bottom of the 10th inning Wednesday at Volcanoes Stadium.
Everett scored four runs on five hits in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double with two outs by Arturo Nieto.
Nieto finished the night 1-for-4 with the two RBI.
However, the offense fell silent after that as the Volcanoes began to chip away at the lead.
Ronnie Jebavy made the score 4-1 in the bottom half of the first with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Jebavy later added a double during Salem-Keizer’s two-run fourth inning.
Everett clung to a 4-3 lead entering the bottom of the seventh before a leadoff home run by Salem-Keizer’s John Riley tied things up.
Riley went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the game.
With two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Everett pitcher Kyle Wilcox hit Jebavy, who stole second and reached third on a throwing error by catcher Yojhan Quevedo.
An RBI single by Miguel Gomez — the only hit allowed by Wilcox (2-1) in two innings of work — clinched the win for the home team.
Braden Bishop went 2-for-5 with a run scored for Everett.
Drew Jackson also scored a run with a 1-for-3 night at the plate.
Enyel De Los Santos made his second start for Everett on Wednesday, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
Caleb Smith (1-1) earned the victory for Salem-Keizer with two innings of relief of starter Michael Connolly.
Everett and Salem-Keizer will resume the five-game series tonight, with the game scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
