What: Echinacea “Cheyenne Spirit”
An All American Selection Award winner in 2013 that flowers in its first year. Its rainbow of colors is said to remind gardeners of the North American plains. Commonly known as coneflower, this annual variety has a color mix of purple, pink, red, orange, yellow, cream and white, allowing it to pair well with many other plants. Butterflies are drawn to echinaceas and in today’s climate, its water needs are minimal. The flowers hold up well in a bouquet and it seems immune to wind and rain. It is truly a workhorse in the garden, blooming from summer through the first frost. In addition to the AAS award, Cheyenne Spirit was the recipient of the FleuroSelect Gold Medal award given in Europe for top performance in residential gardens.
