TACOMA — For the second time in five months, the state has fined a Tacoma recycling company for spilling toxic waste into Commencement Bay.
The News Tribune newspaper reported the state Department of Ecology has investigated 19 incidents at Emerald Services since February 2014.
The most recent penalty came in April for $68,000. State officials said the spillage of flammable, toxic waste was the result of employee error.
Emerald Services is appealing the fine.
