BLAINE — Bail has been set at $500,000 for a man accused of a drive-by shooting in Blaine.
The Bellingham Herald reported that 21-year-old Steve Ibarra made his first appearance in court Wednesday on a charge of attempted murder.
Prosecutors say Ibarra shot a rival gang member on Dec. 4, 2011. The rival member, Joe Anthony Guevara-Medina, survived the shooting.
Prosecutors say Guevara-Medina had his tires slashed and as he came out of work a pickup truck came around the corner and people shot at him.
According to a probable cause statement, more than a year later other members of the Brown Pride Surenos gang identified Ibarra as the shooter.
Ibarra has spent the past three years in prison and until now had not been charged in connection to the shooting.
