KEIZER, Ore. — Salem-Keizer scored a run in each of the first four innings Thursday — followed by four more in the sixth — for an 8-2 win and a 2-0 lead in a five-game series against the Everett AquaSox at Volcanoes Stadium.
The Volcanoes got the scoring started with a home run in three of the first four innings off of AquaSox’s starter Luiz Gohara, as Ronnie Jebavy went deep in the first and John Riley followed with a shot to right field in the second to make the score 2-0.
Two singles and two wild pitches by Gohara in the third made the score 3-0. Gohara gave up nine hits and four earned runs in four innings of work.
Julio Pena’s fourth home run of the season put the Volcanoes up by four after four innings.
Everett cut the lead in half in the fifth inning on Shawn O’Malley’s two-out, two-RBI single with runners on second and third.
The sixth inning began with promise after Corey Simpson led off with a single and Logan Taylor followed with a double to put runners on second and third with no outs. However, nothing came of it as a liner to the pitcher and two strikeouts squashed the threat.
Everett left nine runners on base in the game.
Salem-Keizer doubled its run total in the sixth inning to make the score 8-2, thanks to four singles, a walk and another hit batter.
