SEATTLE — Fire officials say a 32-year-old man drowned in Lake Washington just as Seafair was ending Sunday evening.
KOMO-TV reported that according to witnesses, the man fell off a 20-foot pleasure craft about 150 feet offshore, and that he kept popping up to the surface. Others tried unsuccessfully to help him.
It took about 90 minutes for the Seattle police harbor patrol and other emergency personnel to find him using a police robotics unit. He was about 45 feet underwater, hidden in heavy silt.
Seattle Fire spokesman Kyle Moore says the man had no pulse and wasn’t breathing when he was brought to the surface. The man’s name was not immediately released. He was not wearing a life jacket.
