BELLINGHAM — Wildlife officials are searching for a poacher who shot a deer inside city limits over the weekend.
The Bellingham Herald reported that the two-point buck was found dead of a gunshot wound Saturday.
Officials from the Washington Department of Fish &Wildlife believe it was shot illegally around 3 a.m. Officer Jeff Lee says whoever shot the deer knew what they were doing and knew it was illegal.
He says residents of a condominium complex heard two gunshots at 3:21 a.m. Saturday. They reported the dead deer to wildlife officials and expressed concern that someone fired a gun in their neighborhood. It’s common for deer to walk around the area.
Bellingham police Lt. Bob Vander Yacht says it’s also illegal and unsafe to shoot a gun within city limits.
