SEATTLE — The city of Seattle is rolling out a new emergency-alert system.
Mayor Ed Murray says the system, called AlertSeattle, will provide real-time notification about earthquakes, explosions, flooding and other disasters, and that it will improve safety by letting people know about what they need to do during an emergency. It’s a free service, and people can customize how they want to receive the alerts.
Residents and visitors can also sign up to receive alerts about severe weather, power outages and major traffic incidents.
