Feathers in focus
The work of several local photographers showing images of birds will be on display through Aug. 18 at the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St., and at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St. The display was organized in preparation for Edmonds’ annual Puget Sound Bird Fest, Sept. 11-13. Brier to ponder fireworks ban: The city of Brier had made official its plan to consider a ban on fireworks. An advisory vote is planned for the general election in November. The city sent the county the documentation last week, officials said. About half of Snohomish County cities ban fireworks, including Everett and most of south county. Lynnwood’s ban went into effect this year. Marysville also is mulling a ban.
Guns ‘n Hoses Softball: The Lake Stevens police and fire departments plan the annual Annual Guns ‘n Hoses Softball Challenge for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Stevens High School baseball field, 2908 113th Ave. NE. There also will be a barbecue with hot dogs and brats at the event. All proceeds will go to the Lake Stevens Family Center. Donations of composition notebooks are requested.
Darrington meeting: The new Darrington Collaborative is hosting its first public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Darrington Community Center, 570 Sauk Ave. The collaborative is a group of leaders and volunteers focused on improving the local economy, adding jobs and enhancing outdoor recreation and education. Anyone who lives in the Darrington area is welcome to attend the meeting and share ideas.
