EVERETT — Snohomish County Council Chairman Dave Somers widened his lead in the race for county executive in the latest vote counts from Tuesday’s primary election.
Somers had a 1,125-vote advantage over incumbent Executive John Lovick in results released Thursday, up from five votes a day earlier. Lovick had been the front-runner in the initial results on primary night.
The Democrats appear to have emerged atop a five-person field vying to compete in the Nov. 3 election.
The executive’s race was the only countywide contest on the primary ballot.
In Snohomish, a proposal to create a special taxing district to support the parks system was being rejected by more than two-thirds of voters.
The primary narrowed the field of candidates for city council races in Everett, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood and Mukilteo. Voters also were make choices for school board contests in the Edmonds, Lakewood and Northshore districts.
