Edmonds School Board incumbent Gary Noble leads challenger Mary Murphy in results of the Tuesday primary that apparently has eliminated candidate Mark Norton, the candidate who had the endorsement of the Herald.
Results posted Friday showed Noble with 60.58 percent of the early vote to 23.28 percent for Murphy and 15.05 percent for Norton.
Snohomish County elections officials had counted 2,511 Edmonds School District ballots Tuesday with at least 112 uncounted.
Ballots counted countywide through Friday represent 99.56 percent of ballots on hand, 91 percent of the expected final turnout and 22.76 percent of registered voters.
The Edmonds School District includes Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Woodway and nearby unincorporated areas of southwest Snohomish County, unincorporated areas north of Edmonds and Lynnwood and northeast of Lynnwood, and part of Brier.
Murphy and Noble are running for a four-year term representing director district 3 including parts of the city of Edmonds and most of the city of Lynnwood on both sides of Highway 99. It includes Edmonds-Woodway High School, College Place elementary and middle schools and Lynnwood Elementary School.
Candidates must live in the director districts they represent, but voters throughout the School District vote for each position.
Positions representing three of the other four director districts also are on the Nov. 3 general-election ballot but weren’t on the primary ballot because none had more than two candidates.
County officials plan to post updated returns each weekday through final certification of results Aug. 18.
The Herald editorial board said in July, “little separates Norton and Noble on the issues or in their knowledge of the district and the issues it faces,” adding, “Norton, the transit security manager for Metro, demonstrates drive, critical thinking and a unique understanding of security issues, and demonstrates clear understanding of school funding and testing issues.”
