Climate protection
The Mayor’s Climate Protection Committee in Edmonds is seeking new members. The group works to address the future impacts of climate change, to implement conservation ideas, and to encourage city staff and others to conserve resources. Interested candidates should fill out a City of Edmonds Boards &Commissions application, which can be found on the city’s website, or emailed or mailed to you. Construction trades: Teens can register for a new job experience and education program in Arlington. WorkForce Snohomish and the Snohomish County Labor Council are working with local businesses and leaders to put on the first Constructing Futures event Aug. 17-20. It’s open to people 16 to 18 years old. Participants get the chance to try out different construction and manufacturing jobs to see what they might like to do and to learn about real-world job skills. Child advocates: Volunteers are needed to advocate for foster children. Snohomish County is looking for volunteers for its Guardian ad Litem program. People 21 or older are needed to advocate for children who have been removed from their homes due to allegations of abuse and neglect. Qualified volunteers will receive training and are asked to stay with a case from start to finish. Training sessions are coming up in September.
