PUYALLUP — Authorities say a man fatally shot another man while trying to steal his truck before leading police on a high-speed chase in which he fired multiple rounds at officers.
No officers were injured.
Puyallup police had responded Tuesday afternoon to reports of a man walking down a street firing a handgun. Authorities say when units arrived the suspect shot at officers. Police say the man then entered a house, stole a sports utility vehicle and drove it through a garage door.
The man continued to fire at pursuing officers before he crashed the vehicle near the Washington State Fairgrounds. Authorities say the suspect got out, fired more shots and was taken into custody after an officer rammed him with his vehicle.
The News Tribune reported that police spokesman Chris Lawler said it was unclear whether the suspect was struck by police gunfire, but he appeared to have a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Lawler says the incident began when the suspect fatally shot a 71-year-old man at a different home who found the man in his truck and confronted him.
Multiple agencies were investigating.
