SEATTLE — A federal appeals court has upheld a lower court’s ruling against an anti-Muslim group that wanted to post advertisements on King County Metro buses.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday rejected the claim by the American Freedom Defense Initiative and its president Pamela Geller that King County was violating its First Amendment right to free speech.
The group sought to display an ad titled “Faces of Global Terrorism.” It included 16 photographs and the statement “AFDI Wants You to Stop a Terrorist.”
The ad says the FBI offers a $25 million reward to capture one of the people shown. Metro rejected the ad, saying it failed to meet its policy guidelines, which includes that the ad must be accurate.
The appeals court agreed with Metro’s position that the claim about the FBI was false.
