EUGENE — The Everett AquaSox used a big eighth inning to break open a close game and beat the Eugene Emeralds 6-1 Wednesday night at PK Park.
Everett scored first in the game after Logan Taylor led off the fourth inning with a double and stole third. He scored two batters later on Arturo Nieto’s grounder to shortstop to make the score 1-0.
Eugene evened things up in the bottom half after an RBI single by Ian Rice.
Bats for both sides fell silent until the seventh, when Everett broke the tie with a two-out RBI triple by Drew Jackson to make the score 2-1. Jackson went 2-for-5 on the night.
Everett padded the lead in the eighth with three more runs to make the score 5-1. Nieto chipped in with a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error by pitcher Greyfer Eregua scored Taylor from second.
Everett added one more run in the ninth when Jackson scored from third on a wild pitch.
Everett starter Enyel De Los Santos got the win after pitching six strong innings, striking out seven and allowing four hits.
