Spirit Aero finishes first Boeing 737 MAX fuselage

Spirit Aerosystems has completed the first Boeing 737 MAX fuselage at its Wichita plant. The fuselage will eventually move to Boeing’s Renton plant, which will assemble both the 737 Next Generation and the 737 MAX.

After the fuselage arrives in Renton, it will go onto the plant’s central assembly line, where its wings will be attached. Boeing workers started assembling wings for the 737 MAX program’s test aircraft in late May.

The single-aisle airplane’s CFM International LEAP-1B engine is already undergoing testing in California. Boeing expects the engine to be certified next year.

The 737 MAX is slated to enter service in 2017.
