Edmonds City Council candidates Alicia Crank and Dave Teitzel will run in November for the position that Councilwoman Joan Bloom is giving up after one four-year term.
The two recently sent statements introducing themselves to voters. Here are those statements:
Edmonds City Council Position 5
Alicia Crank: I am running to bring a positive, fresh vision to Edmonds. Here is my plan to make our city an even better place to live:
- Open Government and Transparency: My top priority: Ensure residents are given the tools needed to be informed and involved on city issues. Every voice should be heard. Residents should be welcomed to speak on any agenda or non-agenda item during public comments. Being heard is vital to being involved.
- Housing Affordability: Edmonds should provide ample opportunities for anyone who wants to call our city home. We must factor in the working middle class when expanding our housing base, with an eye towards protecting our unique quality of life.
- Smart Growth and Development: Let’s institute smart building practices in Edmonds, both commercial and residential. I favor requiring green building practices as well as mixed-use developments, especially along our transportation corridors. I believe in walkable neighborhoods where one can access retail and park space without driving.
- Destination Edmonds: Our city has the great fortune of having an amazing downtown and waterfront. With the amount of commute/ferry traffic we have on a daily basis, the city and downtown merchants can strategize on how to best capture and grow business in the area. Let’s make Edmonds the place for people to have dinner or meet up with friends before taking the ferry home!
Dave Teitzel: My wife and I raised our two daughters in the Edmonds area, and I have an excellent understanding of the many challenges and opportunities our community faces. In addition to a strong history of volunteerism, I have a deep business background in budgeting, marketing and public policy that will serve our Council well as it addresses growth, finance and environmental issues. I am committed to protecting and enhancing Edmonds’ wonderful attributes and will actively seek input from all stakeholders in our city to ensure Council establishes policies that benefit all Edmonds residents. To underscore this commitment, I’m halfway to my goal of personally doorbelling 5,000 homes throughout Edmonds.
As a new candidate, I will bring a fresh perspective and an extensive business background to the city and am solidly committed to serving the people of Edmonds. I am pleased to have a broad base of support including:
- International Association of Fire Fighters Local #1828
- Edmonds Police Officers Association
- Washington Conservation Voters
- Washington Teamsters Legislative League
- Affordable Housing Council
- Cascade Bicycle Club
- Mayor Dave Earling
- Former Mayor Gary Haakenson
- Strom Peterson, State Representative
- Tom Mesaros, Edmonds City Council member
- Frank Yamamoto, former Edmonds City Council member
- Kurt Campbell, Owner: Campbell/Nelson Volkswagen
