TULALIP — The Band Perry will sing its new single “Live Forever,” for the first time on stage Aug. 15 when the Grammy award-winning sibling trio performs at the Tulalip Amphitheater as part of the summer concert series here.
This past week, the band was on the bus rolling down the road somewhere in America’s heartland.
Summer is when musicians make hay, traveling from festival to fair and all sorts of outdoor venues.
Kimberly Perry, who fronts the band, woke up from a cat nap on the bus to answer the phone. Cell connections were spotty and the interview took a few tries.
Kimberly, 31, and her brothers, Reid, 26, and Neil, 25, are the reigning Academy of Country Music’s vocal group of the year.
They produce tight harmonies and talented musicianship on a variety of instruments.
The Perry siblings all started with classical piano lessons. Reid plays bass guitar and violin, and Neil plays mandolin, accordion, drums and bouzouki. Their sister still plays piano as well as guitar.
Kimberly was in sixth grade when a friend asked her to join a band as its lead singer.
“I immediately fell in love with singing in a band,” she said. “I caught the fever.”
The siblings put The Band Perry together in 2005 when the brothers were still teens, and released the band’s self-titled debut album in 2010. Their second album, “Pioneer,” was released in 2013 and they are at work on a third album to be released this fall.
The Perrys’ parents claim their favorite instrument is the radio, Kimberly said with a laugh. The thing is, their folks just love music, whether it’s the Rolling Stones, Motown, Queen or Loretta Lynn. And that upbringing shows in the band’s music, she said.
The Band Perry plays country, but it often sounds like rock and funk, and they aren’t adverse to covering classics such as “Gentle On My Mind,” the John Hartford song that made Glen Campbell famous.
The Band Perry performed the song for the Glen Campbell documentary “I’ll Be Me” released in 2014. The band’s version of the song won a Grammy earlier this year.
Just as important was the fact that their parents loved their rendition.
“They are lovers of Glen Campbell’s music and we are so honored to play that song,” Kimberly said. “We are proud of our music video of that song.”

Fans can expect to hear “Gentle On My Mind” on Saturday at Tulalip, along with the new single.
“Tulalip is the first show where we will play ‘Live Forever’ live,” Kimberly said. “We are super excited. Our show has lots of energy. It’s going to be a great day.”
