I am sick and tired of hearing about the government taking our hard earned money. There is a price to pay for living in this country. We have a responsibility to contribute back to the country that gives so much. Will you stop paying mortgage, or rent because the banks are taking your hard-earned cash? Previous letter writers seem to believe taxes are a socialist plot to redistribute their money to those who have none.
Here are some facts: The infrastructure in this nation is in terrible shape. Do you think corporations are going to step up with repairs? No. It’s the government. The money you begrudge people trying to get back on their feet with social welfare programs? What do you think would happen if we stopped supporting our neighbors in need? Do you think they will fade into the woodwork? No. Crime will rise as people get desperate. Or, I suppose some of you won’t mind if they starve to death.
Paying taxes is a cost of living and if you can’t bring yourself to pay back a small portion of your income for education, health, defense, bridges and roads, etc., then why don’t you think of it as paying for the things you use or have used in the past? Did you go to public school? Do you drive on the roads? Have you ever had to call the police or fire department? Tell me, who is the freeloader? The people who don’t want to pay for services in the form of taxes? Or those adults who understand that they have an obligation to pay and help fund the place they live?
