President Barack Obama is on Martha’s Vineyard for his annual two-week summer vacation, and the White House has released his reading list.
It includes some newly published nonfiction by Ta-Nehisi Coates, the Atlantic writer who has had some tough words for the president at times, as well as fiction by Jhumpa Lahiri, whose book “The Lowland” Obama bought in 2013 but apparently has not yet read (or wants to reread).
It’s not clear whether the president is doing most of his reading in hard cover (or paperback) or has switched primarily to e-readers. He and the first family stopped making their summer trip to the Bunch of Grapes bookstore in 2013.
Here’s the list as provided by the White House:
“All That Is,” James Salter
“All The Light We Cannot See,” Anthony Doerr
“The Sixth Extinction,” Elizabeth Kolbert
“The Lowland,” Jhumpa Lahiri
“Between the World and Me,” Ta-Nehisi Coates
“Washington: A Life,” Ron Chernow
