Puget Sound Bird Fest: The Puget Sound Bird Fest is a yearly celebration of birds and nature along the Edmonds shoreline. The event, from Sept. 11-13, includes speakers, guided walks, land and water-based field trips, exhibits and educational activities for all ages. More at: www.pugetsoundbirdfest.org. Edmonds Coho Salmon Derby: The annual event will be Sept. 12 at the Port of Edmonds. Cash prizes are $5,000 for first place, $2,500 for second place and $1,000 for third place. There will be a kids division as well. Weigh in deadline is 2 p.m. at Port of Edmonds or Bayside Marine at Port of Everett. All entries qualify to win a new 20-foot fully equipped fishing boat. Fee free days: National parks will be free and state parks won’t require a Discover Pass on Aug. 25 in celebration of the National Park Service’s birthday. Then on Sept. 26, National Public Lands Day, and Nov. 11, Veterans Day, National Parks will be free and state parks and forest service lands won’t require parking passes in observation of National Public Lands Day.
