Angry Birds 2 is Rovio’s full follow-up to the avian slingshot megahit. It comes with new birds, more complex levels and an unlockable mode that pits you against other players. Levels now come in two stages, and players have a card deck of birds from which to obliterate those pesky, egg-stealing pigs. The puzzles are a little more sophisticated and require more thought — making the game a tad less accessible.
You can play without spending a dime, but it will take longer. Angry Birds has adopted a couple of new tricks that have become popular since the first game’s 2009 review — namely limiting players to a set number of lives that recharge over time or by spending an in-game currency (gems, in this case) that’s also available for purchase. You can also buy spells that will help you beat a level.
