EUGENE, Ore. — Four Eugene pitchers combined to pitch a no-hitter as the Emeralds defeated the Everett AquaSox 3-0 Sunday evening at PK Park in a Northwest League baseball game.
AquaSox shortstop and leadoff hitter Drew Jackson was 0-for-4 and had his 20-game hitting streak come to an end. Jackson, who at one point last week was batting .400, saw his league-leading batting average drop to .387.
Eugene’s Preston Morrison, Kyle Twomey, Luis Hernandez and Trey Masek combined to strike out 12 AquaSox batters while walking three.
Morrison started and struck out four and walked none in three innings. Twomey (1-0) struck out three and walked one in three innings. Hernandez struck out four and walked two in two innings and Masek pitched the ninth, striking out Everett’s Logan Taylor for the final out of the game.
Eugene’s Donnie Dewees gave the Ems a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the third. Eugene increased its lead to 2-0 in the fifth on Kevonte Mitchell’s RBI double.
The AquaSox threatened in the top of the eighth. With one out, Hernandez walked Luis Liberato, who stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Ian Rice. Ryan Uhl struck out before Conner Hale walked. Pinch hitter Corey Simpson hit a soft line drive to Eugene third baseman Blake Headley to end the inning.
Eloy Jimenez doubled and scored on Rice’s RBI single in the eighth to increase the Emeralds a 3-0 lead.
