You would think that with all the sexually inappropriate behavior by school teachers that has come to light in the past that the Snohomish School District could recognize grooming for sexual contact. Teacher Bill Nicolay’s behavior as described in The Herald on Monday is clearly grooming behavior. (Article, “Snohomish teacher suspended after probe finds misconduct.”) I’d like to know who made the decision not to fire him. Does a teacher have to actually touch a student sexually before it’s reaches the level of firing? This teacher has been caught doing this before in 2005 and received a reprimand after sleeping in a tent with a student! He wasn’t fired for that? Amazing! Now he gets caught again. And trust me, he wasn’t dormant for 10 years, he just didn’t get caught and no one complained.
If I was a parent of a Snohomish High student, there is no way I would have my child sit in one of his classrooms; bad enough that he has to be in the school. He doesn’t need a two week suspension — he needs to be fired. Those who groom kids for sexual contact can be extremely patient. Snohomish School District — his next victim is on your shoulders.
