EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox escaped a second straight collapse.
Corey Simpson’s wind-aided home run in the bottom of the seventh inning snapped a tie as the Sox went on to defeat the Spokane Indians 8-6 Wednesday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Everett jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but frittered it away as Spokane eventually tied it 6-6 in the top of the seventh. The Sox couldn’t hold a 5-2 lead against Spokane on Tuesday, giving up eight runs in the eighth inning en route to an 11-8 loss.
But this time Simpson was able to stop the bleeding as his opposite-field fly ball just carried over the short fence in right-center to give Everett a
Simpson finished a double short of the cycle and Braden Bishop homered for the second straight game for Everett (12-9 second half, 34-25 overall).
Sherman Lacrus doubled three times and Dylan Moore drove in three runs to pace Spokane (10-11, 29-30).
Jackson topping the charts
Everett shortstop Drew Jackson is making a strong case for the Northwest League’s Most Valuable Player award.
Jackson went into Wednesday’s action leading the league in four key offensive categories: batting average (.383), on-base percentage (.447), runs scored (53) and stolen bases (36). His lead in batting average was 39 points, and he had 13 more runs scored than the nearest competition. Jackson’s lead in runs and stolen bases came despite sitting out 13 games. Jackson also ranked second in OPS (.932) and fourth in slugging percentage (.486).
Two-headed monster
Everett has no players among the league’s pitching leaders. However, if one added together the numbers of Andrew Moore and Anthony Misiewicz, who have been sharing a spot in the rotation and piggybacking on top of one another’s starts, one would have one of the best pitchers in the league. Between them Moore and Misiewicz are 3-3 with a 2.26 ERA, walking just eight and striking out 66 in 67 2/3 innings. The 2.26 ERA would rank third in the league.
Moore and Misiewicz are splitting starts in an effort to limit their innings following busy springs with their college teams.
