In the Wednesday letter written by Morgan Davis, “Name caller needs a mirror,” he wrote “correct me if I’m wrong.” In fact, he is very wrong about Mr. Tagart. Jim Tagart was with the Seattle Police Department for 18 years prior to accepting the job as police chief in Mount Vernon, which I’m sure wouldn’t like to be classified as “Mayberry” with its two person police department. It was just the opposite, Jim took his 18 years of “big city” experience to Mount Vernon. Jim also served in the United States Navy on a submarine along with many years in the Coast Guard Reserves teaching firearm safety. Jim has also served on the board that reviews police officer candidates and as a guard at the federal courthouse. Perhaps if Mr. Morgan would have checked Jim’s background he wouldn’t classify him with Barney and Goober.
