Thank you for covering the tribute to World War II and Korean War vets held at the Lynnwood Elks last Saturday. (Article, “22 veterans of WWII gather in Lynnwood to recall their experiences.”)
I’d like to recognize Russell Pyles, who organized and absorbed all costs for this most enjoyable event. His hard work and dedication made it possible for the large crowd in attendance to be recognized for their service. Russ and his staff of volunteers did an amazing job decorating the Elks Lodge in a patriotic theme; providing medals on red, white and blue ribbons to each vet attending; a barbecue feast complete with complementary drinks; an award ceremony where each vet received a certificate of service printed with their name; group photos taken; a passing of the flag from the oldest vet to the young volunteers from Naval Station Everett and dynamite music by the Moonlight Swing Orchestra. Everyone signed a guest book and I’m sure all of the attendees will not forget the time and effort taken to honor them for their service in what were life changing events in our history.
Most sincerely,
Sally Lauman
