The Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society (SVGS) just wrapped up another great conference at Arlington High School’s beautiful Byrnes Performing Arts Center. We were able to secure three of the top speakers in genealogy today who all got together for the first time! We had over 350 people attending from all over the U.S. and Canada who made our hometown their destination over four days.
The SVGS thanks the city of Arlington and Snohomish County for grant money from the hotel/motel tax funds that made this conference possible. We succeeded with over 300 overnight stays in local hotels, with hundreds of meals served in area dining establishments. This year SVGS is celebrating 30 years in the Stilly Valley. We are a non-profit community service group run by dedicated volunteers who have a wide range of knowledge. Who am I? Where is my Grandma buried? When did they immigrate? What was grandpa’s football jersey number – “I want to honor him” – these are common questions we can answer. The fact is we have connections to the past and an invaluable library of over 5,000 books to get us there. Regretfully, like a lot of non-profits, we need a permanent place to call home that we can afford. We sincerely hope that the community recognizes our value, as evidenced by this conference, and somehow someone will help us in our search for a place to call home for the next 30 years so we can continue to provide this great community service. You can contact us at info@stillygen.org. Thanks so much!
