BELLINGHAM — Another deer has died after being shot by a poacher within the Bellingham city limits.
The Bellingham Herald reported a deer had to be euthanized after it was found with a crossbow bolt in its neck on Sunday.
Police found the deer in a grassy area on Iowa Street around 7 a.m.
Bellingham Police Sgt. Mike Scanlon says the deer was moving slowly and appeared to be in poor health so an officer killed it, per department policy.
Scanlon says they don’t know who shot the deer but are processing the bolt for fingerprints and DNA evidence.
Another deer was found dead within city limits at the beginning of August. The two-point buck died of a gunshot wound.
Both cases are being referred to the Washington Department of Fish &Wildlife.
