RICHLAND — A Richland woman has been accused of stealing thousands from an elderly man she met through her job as a waitress.
The Tri-City Herald reported that 48-year-old Sandra Gray denies any wrongdoing in connection to the 81-year-old’s estate. She has been listed as a beneficiary on one of his bank accounts, been appointed his power of attorney and been transferred interest in his real estate.
Gray has been charged in Benton County Superior Court with one count of first-degree theft. Prosecutors say she wrote checks from the man’s account to herself totaling almost $20,000.
The man has been diagnosed with dementia. He has told Adult Protective Services and his family that he is going to marry Gray, who is already married. He met Gray in 2009.
