Mariner cheerleaders place at camp
The Mariner High School cheer team came back with several honors from a recent summer UCA Cheer Camp held at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.
The team won the UCA Overall Spirit Award for its division, as well as second-place trophies in overall varsity and the Extreme Routine Championships. The team also placed third in overall sideline. Chris Cisneros earned a first-place ribbon in the men’s jump. Meri Tekeste was a Pin It Forward recipient, a leadership award given to a cheerleader or yell leader who has stood out from the rest. Tekeste as well as Mekdes Abate also were named UCA All American.
The 2015-16 cheer team was chosen in April, and the camp competition marked “a great start to an awesome cheer season to come,” varsity cheer coach Katrina Craddock said.
