Smoking banned from Everett Station
Everett Transit is installing new signs in September to promote Everett Station as “smoke-free.”
Indoor smoking is already banned statewide because of Initiative 901, but Everett Transit is extending the ban to Everett Station’s adjacent sidewalks, all bus bays and transit shelters, as well as the landscaped areas within the property. The no-smoking policy includes e-cigarettes and vaporizers.
Everett Transit will put an added emphasis on enforcement once the signs go up to remind people that smoking outside the bus terminal is not permitted. Previously designated smoking areas will be repurposed this fall and will no longer be available.
Volunteers needed: The nonprofit branch of Dream Dinners is organizing volunteers to work one-hour shifts, packing 150,000 meals for those in need in Snohomish County and abroad.
Volunteers can choose times that they are available between 9 a.m and 1 p.m. on Sept. 12. Donations are also needed.
To register for a shift, visit livingthedreamFPE.eventbrite.com.
Donations can be made online at tinyurl.com/ncymjfl.
Changes in fire district: Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens has created a new deputy chief and fire marshal position. The fire district expects to conduct candidate interviews in September and to hire someone by Nov. 1, according to meeting minutes.
The district has been without a fire marshal since the March death of Robert Marshall. The job pays up to $130,000 a year. They also plan to hire an assistant fire marshal this fall.
