BREMERTON, Wash. — Police say a man stepped on a gas line at a motel in Washington state just before a huge explosion destroyed part of the structure and critically injured a gas company worker.
The Kitsap Sun reported that authorities say the man was helping his stepdaughter climb out of a second-story window at the Motel 6 in Bremerton on Aug. 18.
Bremerton Police Chief Steve Strachan says the man was on the ground and stepped on the line while helping the girl descend. Minutes later the gas explosion happened.
Police say the man rented the room for his stepdaughter after she had an argument with her mother. After the mother found out where she was, police say the girl was climbing out a window to avoid detection.
Strachan says that stepping on the gas line is a “factor” in the explosion but an investigation continues.
