EVERETT — Brace for wetter and cooler weather over the next few days.
Thursday was likely the last sunny and dry day for awhile, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.
September still could see some hot days, though, maybe “one last hurrah and then October comes and the party’s over,” meteorologist Johnny Berg said.
The rain is expected to start early Friday with a storm Saturday and continued showers Sunday, he said. Early next week also is looking cloudy and cooler than it’s been lately.
Some places in the lowlands could see up to an inch and a half of rain, Berg said. For comparison, the Aug. 14 thunderstorm dropped about an inch of rain, but that was a brief burst.
The expected storm this weekend will be a longer, more widespread event, Berg said. Wind gusts are possible.
September still could see days in the 80s and 90s, Berg said. Sept. 6 was the last 90-degree day of 2014, he said. According to records dating back to the 1890s, 90 degree days have happened as late as Sept. 22, though some years see none at all.
Some areas in the mountains and coastal areas of the state could see much more rain, the Weather Service reported in a recent alert. People planning to be outdoors this weekend should pay close attention to the forecast, according to the alert.
Smoke from the wildfires around the state has prompted additional concerns.
All that said, Labor Day Weekend is promising weather-wise, with a forecast that’s warm and mostly sunny.
