Recently, there have been at least two instances of citizens trying to take back the streets of Everett. Last week, a group of neighbors, along with a motorcycle group, took a stand at Clark Park. Tired of the 24/7 squatters who left behind needles, trash and intimidated legitimate park users, the group took a stand and “took back” the park for family use.
Then Thursday I read that some Everett firefighters escorted a frequent 911 service user out of town. I myself have called 911 on this person, only to be told by the 911 dispatch that he had already been called on four times that day for drunkenness and passing out beside his wheelchair. These are just two examples of what Everett is dealing with the homeless and drug users. I personally have no answers to deal with these situations. If only I could save the world. However, I think it’s a sad city where its leaders are not taking a stand and finding a solution, or even a Band-Aid, for the issue. When neighbors and firemen are more effective than city codes and laws, something needs to change. Mayor? City Council?
