What a wonderful column in Tuesday’s paper by Julie Muhlstein about the “Queen, It’s a New Day” two-day event at the Embassy Suites in Lynnwood. It’s always refreshing to read some “good news” and what a wonderful story this is of women helping women! My husband Alan and I were participants there too, so witnessed this event first-hand. He served as an usher, and I was serving as a “Queen’s Lady,” which meant that I escorted my two queens from place to place during their “makeover” events and sat with them during the gala banquet.
As a member of Everett’s First Presbyterian Church I have felt privileged to have been a small part of this ministry being housed in our church facility. I have watched them labor with much love and joy to all women coming in for either the queen’s help or a time of rest in Esther’s Place. It is so rewarding to see women come out of a background of homelessness and/or addiction of one kind or another and make a good life for themselves The volunteers in Esther’s Place go through some training and have been able to help 18 women find housing in the last seven months! They have helped others in just listening to their stories and giving them love and hope. It was the love and joy that I witnessed there!
Thank you, Julie Muhlstein, for this wonderful column. From my perspective, she managed to capture the spirit of these faithful volunteers who are working to lift others up out of their lonely and depressing situations to a life of empowerment and self sustainment.
Gratefully,
