EVERETT — The Tri-City Dust Devils defeated the Everett AquaSox 9-3 in a rain-shortened, six-inning game on Saturday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.
The teams went into their second rain delay of the evening with one out in the top of the sixth inning, but the umpires called the game.
Tri-City’s Carlos Belen hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth and was followed by a Henry Charles strikeout before the players left the field.
Luiz Gohara (3-6) allowed five runs — four earned — in 3 1/3 innings of work for the AquaSox, while Angel Mejia improved to 5-3 after pitching all five completed frames for Tri-City.
Alex Jackson accounted for all of Everett’s runs with a pair of homers, a two-run shot in the bottom of the first to give the Sox a 2-1 lead, and a solo blast in the fifth that cut the Dust Devils’ lead to five at 8-3.
The two teams are scheduled to conclude the three-game series Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. More rain is expected in Sunday’s forecast.
